    HISTORY:

The Dornier Do X D-1929 was produced by the German company Dornier in 1929. The Do X was the largest, heaviest, and most powerful flying boat in the world at that time. It was first conceived by Claude Dornier in 1924, and planning started in late 1925. After over 240,000 work-hours, it was completed in June 1929 12.Do-X was the luxurious boat of that time, with a dining salon, smoking lounge, wet bar and comfortable seating for 70 to 100 passengers. The Do-X made its first test flight on July 12, 1929. A few months later, it carried a world-record 169 passengers on a 40-minute flight. Only three Do Xs were ever constructed. Do X was transferred over to Deutsche Lufthansa, the German national airline. In September 1933 the Do X was transferred to the Dornier museum where it remained an exhibit until being destroyed during World War II in a Royal Air Force air raid on the night of 23–24 November 1943. Fragments of the torn-off tail section are displayed at the Dornier Museum in Friedrichshafen. While never a commercial success, the Dornier Do X was the largest heavier-than-air aircraft of its time, and demonstrated the potential of an international passenger air service.
