History:
 
Established on June 1, 1956, it was originally designated as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Eight (HS-8) and has undergone several redesignations since. The squadron has been involved in various operations, including combat tours in Vietnam and support for the Apollo space program. It was redesignated as HSC-8 on September 28, 2007, and continues to execute helicopter utility and light attack missions in support of Carrier Air Wing operations.
